Gargarou Retreat     villas for long lets in the Peloponnese, Greece

Nafplio travel guide

On a tour of the Peloponnese, Nafplio is not to be missed. Its a beautiful Venetian town and port, overlooked by an imposing fortress, with a spacious marble paved main square and many cafes and restaurants. After a day exploring the town or nearby sites of Mycenae and Epidaurus its a joy to relax in one of the waterfront cafes and watch the sun go down behind the small island fortress of Bourtzi. If you don’t fancy the 999 steps up to the Palamidi fortress you can get there by road too, alternatively there is a pleasant walk from the end of the waterfront round the base of the cliffs to a small beach if you prefer something less energetic.

Tip: Many of the hotels are on the steep slope leading up to the fortress with walking access sometimes up difficult flights of stone steps. If this would be a problem for you make sure your hotel is down in the level part of the town before you book.
