Many people come to stay at Gargarou Retreat to have a sabbatical or retreat of 3 or 4 months. They want time to relax and regenerate, giving themselves time and space that they do not normally have within busy lives. Sometimes there is an intention to work on creative projects that have been put on hold for too long - the 1st drafts of 2 novels have been completed here in recent years. People also come to take the time to reflect on where they are in their lives and what they want for the future.
Gargarou Retreat is not a retreat in the traditional sense: we are not an organised community with a spiritual or religious emphasis. We simply offer a place where people can live quietly in their own personal space. We are there if you need us but we don’t intrude.
Gargarou works well for a sabbatical or retreat in Greece for many important practical reasons:
- the detached villas give everyone their own clear personal living environment
- the villas are equipped to be functional places to live in, unlike many holiday rentals, and are furnished in a simple minimal design so you won’t feel your living in someone else’s clutter
all the things you’ll need for day to day living can be found at the local supermarket and village only a 20 or 30 minute walk away
- this is not a package tour destination where everything closes up at the end of the summer season as most of the islands in Greece do.
